Embarking on an international concert tour is always an exhilarating experience. For the 93 members and guests of the Sacramento Choral Society, their recent journey through Northern Italy was nothing short of spectacular. The tour, meticulously coordinated by the SCSO Executive Team, and Ambassadors, in partnership with Music Celebrations International, allowed the group to immerse themselves in this beautiful region’s rich cultural tapestry and breathtaking landscapes. Here’s a detailed account of their memorable adventure.
Milan: A Symphony of Sights and Sounds
The tour began in the vibrant city of Milan, a hub of fashion, art, and history. The group explored captivating sights including the iconic Duomo di Milano where SCSO Organist Dr. Ryan Enright has the pleasure of performing on the Cathedral’s heavenly pipe organ. An afternoon visit to the exquisite Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the La Scala Opera provided fitting inspiration for their upcoming performances. The city’s energy and elegance set the tone for the tour, with members indulging in fabulous shopping and absorbing the endless cultural inspirations around every corner.
Lake Maggiore: Nature’s Serenade
Next on the itinerary were the enchanting islands of Isola Bella and Isola dei Pescatori on the stunning Lake Maggiore. Despite a bit of rain, the group’s spirits remained high as they took in the serene beauty of the region. The lush gardens and historic palaces of Isola Bella, combined with the quaint charm of Isola dei Pescatori, provided a picturesque backdrop for smiles and camaraderie. The natural splendor of Lake Maggiore left an indelible mark on everyone, reinforcing the joy of traveling and performing together.
Stresa to Como: A Harmonious Journey
The Sacramento Choral Society’s journey continued with breathtaking views from their accommodations in Stresa. Each morning, waking up to the scenic vistas of Lake Maggiore invigorated the group, preparing them for the day ahead. One of the highlights was their heartfelt performance at the beautiful San Fedele Church in Como. Singing in such a historic and acoustically perfect venue was a profound experience for the choir, further deepening their connection with Italian culture. The exploration of Verdi’s birthplace added a layer of historical significance, paying homage to one of the greatest composers of all time.
Cremona: An Ode to Mozart
The second concert performance on our tour took place in Cremona, a city renowned for its musical heritage. Here, the choir delivered a breathtaking performance, captivating a huge crowd with their talent and the majestic sounds of a stunning pipe organ. The atmosphere was electric, and the audience’s enthusiastic response was incredible! The combination of exquisite music, a magnificent venue, and the warm reception from the crowd made this performance truly special.
Basilica di Santa Margherita: A Grand Finale
The Sacramento Choral Society’s final leg of the tour was completed with a stunning performance of Mozart’s Requiem at the Basilica di Santa Margherita. The grandeur of the basilica, coupled with the emotional depth of the Requiem, created an unforgettable concert experience. The venue’s acoustics amplified the choir’s harmonies, resonating with the audience and leaving a lasting impression. This performance was a testament to the group’s dedication and passion for choral music, showcasing their exceptional artistry.

Throughout the tour, the group indulged in delicious Italian cuisine, met wonderful people, and experienced the warmth and hospitality of Northern Italy. Every venue, every meal, and every interaction contributed to a tapestry of memories that the members will cherish forever.
