“Absolutely blown away by the Paris Choral Festival at La Madeleine! Commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day made this concert an unforgettable experience. 350 voices filled the stunning space with a power and emotion that left me speechless. Dr. Craig Jessop’s masterful direction brought tears to my eyes. A truly humbling tribute to those who sacrificed everything.”
The Paris Choral Festival at the La Madeleine was particularly special as it commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a poignant moment in history that shaped the world we live in today. The atmosphere was charged with emotion and reverence, making it an unforgettable experience.
When you arrive at La Madeleine, you are immediately captivated by the stunning architecture of the church. Its grand columns and intricate details create a breathtaking backdrop for a concert.
The concert featured 350 singers in the choir. It was awe-inspiring to see so many voices coming together! The choir was accompanied by a magnificent organ and orchestra, which added depth and richness to the performance. Artistic Director, and Conductor, Dr. Craig Jessop, did an outstanding job – many of us were brought to tears by the performance.
The selections performed were carefully chosen to honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought during World War II, and it felt like the music itself was a tribute to their legacy. Each piece was performed with such passion and dedication that it transported me to another time and place.
Following the concert, an audience member came up to John Wiscombe and thanked him for his comments at the beginning of the concert about the importance of D-Day – he said his family is from Normandy and, “we will never forget”.
Several singers in the choir had connections to WWII. The choirs sang recitals at the Normandy American Cemetery which was incredibly moving for them. I left Paris with a heart full of gratitude and a renewed appreciation for the sacrifices made by so many.
